In loving memory of Gary White

This site is a tribute to Gary White. He is much loved and will always be remembered by all who knew him.

Dad was the fittest and healthiest he had been since his 'legendary' sporting days, and had lost around 5 stone over the last few years. He suffered a Severe Acute Pancreatitis attack on Christmas day caused by gallstones. He was rushed to A&E and later moved to ITU, where despite doing everything they could possibly do, devastatingly he did not recover and passed away 3 days later.  When we asked why this had happened to dad, to us, we were told it was 'just bad luck' - it is not known why some people develop extreme and severe complications that can be, and in dad's case were, fatal. We had no idea that pancreatitis even could be fatal.

Pancreatitis affects over 30,000 people in the UK every year. Around 1,500 will die of the disease. Acute pancreatitis has no cure and there is no treatment. Guts UK is the only UK charity funding a research fellowship into pancreatitis. They are dedicated to finding an effective treatment, a cure, for this devastating disease that has left us without our dad, our mum without her beloved husband and my baby without the best granfy there could be.

We have set up this tribute page in dads memory to help fund the research into pancreatitis. As well as donating you can also share stories and messages, photos and light a virtual candle - please select the 'add to tribute' button. We will take comfort in visiting this page often. We hope that one day no one else will have to go through the devastation that we are going through, with the help of Guts UK and funds raised to support their work. Thank you.
